The First House & What Each Planet Means In It
Posted on
So maybe you’ve looked at your chart and you are wondering about what the houses mean? Well, this will be the first installment in your guide to each of the houses. Of course, starting with the first house, what does it mean if you have a planet in it? If you have many planets in it (a stellium)? Or maybe it is simply just empty.
The First house
The House of Self
Ruler: Aries
Planet: Mars
Governs:
- Sense of self
- Identity
- Impulsive tendencies
- Temperament
- Personality
- Appearance
- Ego
Sun in the First House
The sun is telling us that you will be focusing your vital energy on matters pertaining to the first house. First house is also known as the house of self, and strongly pertains to personal matters. Having a sun sign placement within your first house can be quite a tough placement. People with this placement can often feel as though they have nothing to hide behind. Sun in the first house means that it shares the astrological sign of your rising. Your rising sign is often known as the mask you wear around others. Having both the sun and rising in first house you bear it all for those around you, what you see is what you get.
Moon in the First House
It’s hard to hide elements placed in the first house and the moon does not evade this. With a moon in first house you may feel as though you wear all of your emotions on your sleeve and there is nowhere to hide the emotions you may want to. You will find this has a caring effect as you can easily display emotions of compassion towards those around you. This placement can also make you a bit emotionally unpredictable as you lack the processing time for your emotions, leaving your raw emotional reactions on display for all around.
Mercury in the First House
Mercury in the first house makes communication direct and witty. A person with this placement is often good with their words. Though this placement can also cause the person to overly forward and blunt. Given that the first house is deeply intertwined with your life destiny you may find yourself working with words, possibly as a therapist or mediator. With this placement, you may find that you are eager to start new endeavors but often times abandon projects before they are finished.
Venus in the First House
This can be a challenging placement. Having Venus in the first house can make a person overtly charming and magnetic. People are immediately drawn to their caring nature. Though if you have Venus in the first house you need to be careful not to let your ego get the best of you. Venus in the first house natives may get carried away with their own sense of self, making then rather egotistic or selfish. If you have Venus in the first house you may never feel satisfied though you take up a rather materialistic nature.
Mars in the First House
If you have Mars ion the first house you likely love to debate with others and need a profession in which you are kept busy. This placement makes the native a busy body oozing with excess energy. If you have this placement and work a desk job be sure to go for walks or to the gym regularly as an outlet for your energy. Whatever you choose to do you feel a strong sense of drive guiding you towards your goals. A struggle with having Mars in the first house is finding the motivation to reach long-term goals, without abandoning them in the pursuit of something new.
Jupiter in the First House
Natives with Jupiter in the first house will have luck and abundance in areas of life relating to self. This could manifest in the physical as extreme optimism and an overall happy existence. Jupiter is a large planet amplifying anything in its path, if you have Jupiter in the first house you likely find it easy to put on weight. Though natives with this placement will be blessed with an abundance of self-confidence and likely will not let the past weigh them down.
Saturn in the First House
Those born with Saturn in the first house will have an extremely strong sense of self. Unfortunately, like many first house placements this is not the most harmonious house for Saturn. This placement may suggest a lack of play in early childhood forcing you to develop a sense of self earlier than your peers. As first house placements are shown outwardly to the world, those with Saturn in their first house may appear to be cold and standoffish to those around them. Outward expression of self typically comes with age if you do have Saturn in your first house.
Neptune in the First House
Neptune in the first house actively works against the energy associated with the first house. Natives with this placement may feel as though they have more of a connection with those around them than with themselves. The planet of Neptune fosters our illusions, making someone with Neptune in first house dreamy and gentle, while they may seem quite a bit out of touch with reality. This could push a native into a career in acting, singing or any other form of art.
Uranus in the First House
This placement indicates that your ideas will be very forward thinking, gaining recognition from your peers. Natives with Uranus in the first house can be viewed as a trend setter or a bit of an odd-ball. This placement will make you stand out in such a way that is hard to hide. You may find yourself to be easily adaptable and quite welcoming of change.
Pluto in the First House
Those with Pluto in the first house may appear very intense to those around them. This in and of itself is a very dramatic placement. This placement can lead the native to tearing themselves down, along with anything they’ve built up. The person may feel as if they are constantly in need of ego death and rebirth. To others around you this can make you appear intimidating- especially if it is someone you are meeting for the first time. With this placement, you typically are direct in your endeavors, doing everything with a finite attitude.
