Pluto Enters Aquarius
Pluto’s transit to a new astrological sign only takes place every 15 years or so. Needless to say, this a monumental event. As of now the planet of Pluto has been in the star sign of Capricorn since 2008. When the previous planetary transit into Capricorn took place, we saw major upheaval with the 2008 recession taking place. Pluto brings a strong energy of upheaval and transformation. On March 23rd of this year Pluto will make its first transit into Aquarius, staying there in retrograde until June 11th when Pluto hops back into Capricorn. Pluto will go back and forth between the signs of Capricorn and Aquarius until it decides to stay in Aquarius on November 19th, 2024.
What does Pluto Signify?
As a planet Pluto rules the unconscious as well as all those things which have not yet been revealed to us. Our dealings with all of the taboo sides of life also are associated with the planet of Pluto. Transformation in all walks of life is governed by the planet of Pluto. Thus, meaning when Pluto moves in to your rising or sun sign expect a long haul of transformative energy. In this case some can find Pluto exhausting because as humans many of us like to avoid or even resist change as it pushes us into a state of discomfort. Regardless growth and transformation are absolutely necessary to fulfill our purpose in life. Although it may be uncomfortable to have a Pluto influencing one of your personal planets think that is not only for the best but it will cause you to make monumental strides towards being the best version of yourself that you can become in this lifetime.
On a far less personal level Pluto is often referred to as the generational planet. It gets this name based off the long transits it takes in each sign. Unless you are born around the time of a Pluto transition you can pretty much be sure most of your peers will share the planetary sign of Pluto with you in your birth charts. The sign in which Pluto rests will give your generation a sense of commonality among peers, leaning to a similar way of thinking.
While on an even greater scale, the position of Pluto has the ability to affect large scale global events. Major worldwide events that are found in history books can typically be associated with the transit of Pluto or its position. For example, we have had Pluto sitting in Capricorn for 2008. This position forced the re-examining of rules and social structures within our societies that weren’t working. Pluto reached its late degrees (or critical degrees) in the sign of Capricorn in early 2020. During the critical degrees energy from the planetary placement is amplified—and we all know what took place early on in the year 2020.
Pluto’s back and fourth period:
Pluto will move into the sign of Aquarius on the 23rd of March 2023. During this initial period of the transition Pluto will be traveling direct. While on May 1st, 2023 Pluto will remain in the sign of Aquarius but begin to transit in retrograde. Then finally Pluto will move back into the final degree of the sign of Capricorn where it will remain until 2024 (when Pluto finally makes the final transition into Aquarius).
What signs will be affected by Pluto’s transition?
You may be wondering who will feel the brunt of this transition. It may be helpful to look at both your rising and sun sign in this case.
Taurus
If you have a Taurus sun or rising Pluto is likely to have a large impact on your areas of career and public image. This is because its plutonian energy will shift its focus on your 10th house. The tenth house is associated with career and lifelong ambitions, as well as how you are viewed by the public sphere. As Pluto enters this area of your life you may find yourself switching career paths entirely. If something in your work life hasn’t been working for a while expect Pluto to give you the nudge you need to abandon what no longer serves you. Though this may seem like quite a heavy aspect to deal with, at the end of Pluto’s 20 year transit your career will be transformed for the better.
Leo
The next sign to look out for major transformation over the next 20 years is Leo. Check to see if you have a Leo sun or rising—if you do be prepared for Pluto to move into your 7th house of personal relationships. Though this can be thought of as a scary aspect the change Pluto provides you with will be positive in the end. You may find yourself identifying relationships that are only draining you and as a consequence release yourself for the burden of such connections. Pluto will not disturb one-on-one relationships that are prosperous and currently serve you for your highest good- rather aid you in ridding the ones that currently do not. Letting go of toxic people can be rough, but at the end of this planetary transit expect to be surrounded by only honest loving relationships that help propel you to your highest good.
Scorpio
If you have your sun or rising in the sign of Scorpio strap in and get ready for the next 20 years. During these next 20 years we will have the planet of Pluto in your in your 4th house. This is an especially important placement as it deals with family and the home. During this time, you could be going through as rather difficult restricting of your home life. You may undergo a major move while Pluto is in your 4th house, landing you in a place completely foreign to yourself. You may also spend time examining your family connections, causing you to cut ties or strengthen them with those in your familial circle. You also could take this time to deep dive into your childhood, as this is the perfect opportunity to air out baggage you’ve been carrying since youth. This can be a hard position to deal with but is also one of the most beneficial.
Aquarius
Okay, you had to have known this one with coming- with Pluto moving into YOUR sign and all. Be aware even if you don’t have Aquarius sun sign this could impact you just as much if you have an Aquarius rising. As Pluto moves into your first house the spotlight of transformation is shone directly on you. This next 20 years may actually feel as though you will be going through a sort-of death and rebirth. Nearing the end of this transit, you will feel like a phoenix rising from the ashes – although the work may be grueling it will be such a rewarding journey for you Aquarius. This Plutonian position will help you to dig deeper and discover the limits to who you really are as a person. Be sure to take time to mourn your old skin, though don’t dwell on the past for too long. Find gratitude for the transformative energy of Pluto in your first house.
What crystals can I use to ensure a peaceful & prosperous transition into Pluto?
Since this will be a long transit it might be beneficial to pick up a crystal or two that could aid your journey:
Smoky Quartz
With the heavy transformational plutonian energy Smoky Quartz is an innate pairing. This crystal being known as the stone of death and rebirth there couldn’t be a more important crystal to have by your side as Pluto begins to overhaul a new area of your life (depending on which of your houses it will be sitting in).
Amethyst
Such a special stone, is there really any situation that amethyst can’t help out with? Pluto moving into Aquarius is no exception here. Not only will amethyst help to ward off possible negative plutonian energies during this transit but it will also work in harmony with Aquarian energy. This stone will be beneficial for all signs during this time, though could be especially helpful for those with Aquarius rising or sun placements.
Larvikite
Larvikite is another powerful stone to use when focused on transforming any area of your life. It helps the user to garner inner strength needed to deal with major life changes, something strongly associated with Pluto transits. If Pluto in transit comes in like a sudden storm, you can think of Larvikite as your emergency shelter. It provides you with the toolkit you need to successfully overcome major changes.
Which signs will be most relieved by this monumental transit?

Those of you with Aries sun or rising placements will get to breathe a sigh of relief. As Pluto moves out of your 10th house regarding career and into your 11th house of groups and friendships.
